Streaming Skyrim: Greybeards and Dragons

Last night we found a mute old man who told us we could go somewhere to find something to defeat a dragon.

Again, he was mute. Couldn’t understand a word he said.

But we also met the Greybeards! They are a group of old men who live on a mountain and speak the dangerous tongue of the dragons. You can rend the flesh from a man’s bones if you say the right (or wrong) word. And so to combat the menace that is spreading, we’re hunting Words of Power across Skyrim. Some of those words are even 4 letters. Naughty!

Follow me tonight at 10:00PM EST as I scour Skyrim’s mountains, caves, and women’s drawers for those words of power. The MikeReverb1 Twitch Stream! http://twitch.tv/mikereverb1

P.S.!

Saturday’s Giveaway just became HUGE! Make sure you spread the word about the stream, guys! Your support makes all the magic happen. 😀

500 Followers! Oh, and Skyrim and the Dark Brotherhood

Guys, we did it. We reached 500 followers! 500 people have watched the stream and decided we were worthy of keeping tabs on.

We also hit 10,000 views last night. Huge milestones for having streamed only for a month and a half, and an indication of the future of our MikeReverb1 community. Thanks so much everyone. You made this possible.

Now, onto Skyrim.

The Dark Brotherhood quests have always been some my favorite questlines in the Elder Scrolls series. They task you with working in the shadows to create (or disrupt) a sense of order. Or, really, to just line the pockets of some bloodthirsty mothafuckas.

Skyrim The Dark Brotherhood

Either one works for me. 🙂

Last night, during my giveaway, we began the questline for this mysterious group of assassins, and tonight we’ll take more contracts for the glory of the Night Mother!

Follow me for an earlier, special stream at 6:00PM EST on the MikeReverb1 Twitch Stream — http://twitch.tv/mikereverb1

So stop on by tonight because you’re awesome. 6:00PM EST is when it starts, and http://twitch.tv/mikereverb1 is where it happens!

Sniper At My Heels: DayZ Standalone

He killed two of my viewers.

We were just standing in the middle of a tent, trying to regroup, trying to figure out where the sniper was.

We might have even laughed a bit, nervously considering our options.

Then a shot rang out. My friend Nephilim went down.

Then another.

Crumbled.

He trained his sights on me but I ran, and ran, and ran until I felt safe enough to log off. Not the most courageous option, I know, but I had a giveaway to run! 😛

Tonight I go back to the Northwest Airfield in search of trouble and ammo. Come join me, will you?

Hungry Eyes! Don’t Starve

I’ve been meaning to tell you about this feeling that woooon’t subsiiiiide!

Yup, I’ve got hungry eyes, and the only thing that’ll satisfy them is Don’t Starve.

Carrots, berries, murdered rabbits. I’ll eat it all!

In Don’t Starve, you survive against the elements and the encroaching darkness, hoping to last just one more day before Satan takes your soul. Or something like that. I honestly just want to make jerky.

Follow me tonight, folks, at 10:00PM EST on the MikeReverb1 Twitch Stream!

Memory Machines

Just a quick post today as the writing Muse has a hold of me something fierce.

More and more, I’m noticing my dependency on technology in a very key area: memory.

A friend of mine is in the hospital, and she gave me the phone number to her room, which I promptly put into my cellphone. However, for some reason, I couldn’t commit it to memory, nor did I feel particularly inclined to. I realized that I didn’t know any of my friends’ or family members’ phone numbers. I had them all stored away in my cellphone with little fear of losing them. And if I did, I could just reach out to them on Facebook and get their numbers. If that failed, then email would work just fine.

But years ago, before the advent of the Internet, I would memorize numbers because I had to. Sure, I had a little black book too, but at any given time, I could recite a list of numbers off the top of my head, at least the ones belonging to my closest friends and family. Since it’s no longer necessary to do so now, I feel like I’ve lost something.

It’s not just phone numbers, either. It’s all kinds of facts that I don’t feel an urgency to remember. Why? Because a casual search on Google or Wikipedia will give me the info I need. So that little transition from short term memory to long term doesn’t happen as much. Who needs to remember a bunch of facts these days anyway? Or Shakespeare quotations, which my literature professors could recite in a heartbeat?

It seems that machines are taking over not only labor but memory storage and management. I feel a Terminator 2, Skynet becoming aware scenario coming on. Maybe one day we’ll free up so much of our brain that we won’t have to remember a thing ourselves, and we can devote that brain power to something else.

Nah.

What do you guys think?

We’ve Come A Long Way–The Internet a Decade Later

It’s difficult to imagine life without the Internet. Instead of looking up YouTube videos, I’d have to go outside and play with a stick and a tire.

If I couldn’t use Facebook or Twitter, I’d have to talk to my friends through a string and a can.

But the behemoth that is the Internet was a much smaller beast at one point, and the habits we’ve adopted today are quite different from just a few short years ago. To show just how much things have changed, Bestedsites.com created an infographic depicting how the Internet and our use of it have progressed over the past ten years.

As a side note, I wish more infographics were .gifs or at least had moving parts within them. It’s pretty cool to watch as I like motion and shiny things (click on the infographic image to see what I mean).

What changes to the Internet have you enjoyed the most? The least?
